GILDED 'MULTI-LAYERED ROBE' BODHISATTVA

Standing limestone Bodhisattva in calm and collected expression with traces of over thousand years old gild across face, chest, and parts of body.


The slim statue is seen wearing an multi-layered robe elegantly draped across its body, while neatly exposing its chest, hands, and feet. Its hands and part of its toes are missing but its body remains well-intact.

SLIM 'POINTED SCALP' STANDING BODHISATTVA

Standing limestone Bodhisattva with full-face, pointed scalp, and in calm and collected expression. The slim statue is seen wearing a long waist-hugging robe that is elegantly draped across its body, while slightly exposing its neck, hands, and the now-missing toes. Its hands and toes are missing but its body remains well-intact.


Traces of gild is still visible across its body while some of its surface pigments are peeling off, the result of over 1500 years history of wear and tear.

RARE LIMESTONE STANDING BUDDHA

Rare & Important standing limestone Buddha with benevolent expression. Complete body except missing hands, traces of remaining gold fragments on face and other parts of the body. Elegant dangling robe covering whole body with a mini knot on chest.

'MINI BUDDHA PANEL' STANDING BUDDHA

Standing limestone Bodhisattva in calm and collected expression with traces of over thousand years old gild across face, chest, and parts of body. The slim statue is seen wearing a simple one-piece robe elegantly draped across its body slightly exposing its neck, hands, and toes. Behind is a 'imperfect' circular panel decorated with five mini-seated Buddhas and a raised mini-rounded floral band.

Its left hand is missing while its right hand is slightly clenched to hold a now-missing item. Its long thin toes are intact to pair with its slim body, yet there is a visible separation between toes and lower body.

MINI STANDING BODHISATTVA PANEL

Standing Bodhisattva in benevolent expression with a revealing elaborate multi-layered robe with long tail-ends that is elegantly draped across body with a tied ribbon on top of visibly exposed chest.

Standing in front of a delicately and detailed sketched panel lotus-petal shaped mandorla, incised with an outer band of flames enclosing various floral bands. Its hands are missing but its body remains intact with complete set of long-slim toes, face, and surface decorations.

THE 'DIVERSE CHARACTER' LIMESTONE PANEL

An exceptional thick limestone panel heavily decorated with an assortment of characters from Buddhas, flying Musicians and Dancers to animals. 

A seated Buddha with multi-layered draped robe is without a doubt the main character and center of attention among the other characters in the background.


The Main Buddha seated in front of a  lotus-petal shaped mandorla, incised with an outer band of flames enclosing various floral bands. It is accompanied by a pair of standing Luo Han and Guan Yin closely on its side, along with seven interconnected mini seated Buddhas in the background and a series of flying winged musician, phoenix, and wingless dancers with long-flowing robe tails.

HEAVILY ACCESSORIZED STANDING BODHISATTVA

Standing Bodhisattva in benevolent expression and heavily adorned with elaborate jewelry and crown. The statue is seen wearing a sash across the chest with a tassel hanging from the center of the necklace. Its arms are missing but its body remains intact with complete set of toes, face, and surface decorations. 

The figure and carvings from this dynasty are heavily influenced by the earlier Northern Zhou carvings,  which typically has a columnar body, slender waist, and heavily decorated with jewelries which originated from the aesthetic of the northwest and India, forging deep roots in Sichuanese Buddhist art.

ELABORATE STANDING BODHISATTVA

Elegant standing Bodhisattva in benevolent expression and heavily adorned with elaborate jewelry, textured crown and large paneled pieces on top of combed back hair bun.


The statue is seen wearing a sash across the chest with a tassel hanging from the center of the necklace. Its arms are missing but its body remains intact with complete set of toes, face, and surface decorations. Remaining panel at the back with traces of gild and thousand year old dusts across body.

'FLEUR DE LIS' BODHISATTVA

Standing full-face Bodhisattva in benevolent expression with 'fleur de lis' or 'flower of the lily' themed crown and necklace. The statue is seen wearing a elegantly draped multi-layered robe with an inverted 'fleur de lis' logo necklace and draped long necklace across body that is interconnected and joined together by a single piece. It Its hands and toes are missing but its body remains intact. Traces of pigments and dotted fragments is across body from over 1500 years of wear and tear.

LORD OF THE LAND ’地藏王‘

Seated Kṣitigarbha '地藏王'  Buddha in Dhyana Mudra (gesture of complete ‘contemplation’) on top of a 3-layer stand (lotus, hexagonal, square) with semi-closed eyes and serene expression, wearing a decorated panel crown with textured pebble pieces, and a long royal blue & red themed gown gently draped exposing right shoulders.

MASSIVE MARBLE HORSE HEAD

A legendary marble horse head coming from a legendary horse. One of a kind piece, powerful horse breed with a compelling status. The horse carried a strong presence in old Chinese society. The horse, second only in importance to the dragon (or more important than the dragon for some), was believed to possess magical powers and was a symbol of perseverance, faithfulness, speediness, and luck.

Seated Bodhisattva in benevolent expression with semi-open eyes in deep meditation. Neatly swept up hair, exceptionally large ears, and thick pursed lips. Wearing a multi-layered robe with part of upper chest exposed. Hands and feet yet face is in impeccable condition.

‘LONG-FACED’ 長面菩薩 BODHISATTVA

Exceptionally elongate-full-faced Bodhisattva in serene expression and hair neatly weaved in knots together. The statue is seated in dhyanasana and wearing an elegantly draped multi-layered robe with wide exposed chest. Robe is carefully detailed with a realistic wrinkled effect. Right hand missing while left hand with long fingers gently rests on lap.

LOTUS-FLOWER STEPPING SEATED BUDDHA

Seated Buddha in benevolent expression and squinted half-shut eyes, wearing a long multi-layered robe that elegantly drapes across the side o the body. Its long sleeves is seen almost entirely covering the side of the platform. Both feet is seen stepping on top of two round ‘lotus flowers’ or “蓮花” (a signature from statues from the Tang Dynasty).

PAIR OF ‘CLOTH-HOLDING’ BODHISATTVA

Standing full-faced Bodhisattva in serene expression with hair tied up elegantly in a hair bun adorned with pebble-shaped necklaces and decorated crown. Both wearing a multi-layered robe that is elegantly drapped from top to bottom. Both hands holding sacrificial offering “祭品” on top of a naturally flowing cloth. One standing on triangular base, the other in round base. Detailed imprinted Chinese calligraphy on the lower back of the statue.

‘THIN UPWARD SLANTED’ 幼戚眼 SEATED BUDDHA

Seated Bodhisattva in benevolent expression highlighted with upward slanted thin eyes, pointed nose, and lips tenderly lifted at the corners to form a beatific smile. Statue is seen wearing an elegantly draped multi-layered robe with both hands resting on lap.

‘ELEVEN MINI BUDDHA’ BUDDHA PANEL 十一小坐佛碑

Buddha seated in dhyanasana with right hand in abhayamudra and left hand likely grasping the loose end of the sanghati, the face with a serene expression and hair neatly tied up in a bun. The main seated Buddha is accompanied by a pair of standing Bodhisattva on each side and band of eleven small seated Buddhas in  the background. The background with a lotus-petal shaped mandorla, incised with an outer band of flames and floral bands.  All  supported on a rectangular base carved to the front with three devotees and a pair of lion. At the upper back is highlighted with a seated Buddha and two cross-armed devotees or guardians.

MYSTICAL HEAVEN LION SPIRIT & HEAVEN GUARD MARBLE STATUE 天獅神獸

Giant mystical heaven lion spirit in fierce expression with mouth wide open in ‘roar’ casting away all evil spirits. Large muscular body with large thick palms clawed on a thick marble base. Heaven guard “天軍” small in comparison to the large lion. Strong-detailing across statue; from flowing layered mane, decorated body armour,  to facial expression.
